Industry Work

Illustrator, InDesign, Procreate, Print

Project:

Created an Anti-Bullying toolkit for schools to help them celebrate Pink Shirt Day. There are two different versions of each kit, standard and digital. The standard kit comes with everything printed and ready to ship. The digital kit is cheaper, coming with a printed banner and download codes for high res PDFs so teachers and parents can print the posters and other elements at home. The kit includes one printed 24″ x 60″ fabric banner, a two-sided interactive poster, a download card for digital elements of the kit, a lesson plan, and a tip sheet for implementation. I worked under the direction of the project manager and senior designer.

Process:

This concept was brought to me by the project manager and senior designer at PiQ Potential. This would be the first big project for the company that I would take the lead on, designing all of the elements shown. There needed to be 2 concepts, one for younger levels and one for older levels. The younger level would include characters from PiQ’s Canadian line of planners and their Wellness Project line. The older concept was to depict a protest against bullying. All content was written by the project manager. All the illustration work is my own.

I started with sketches for the banners to nail down an aesthetic for each level. Once the sketches were approved, I moved on to tracing them in Illustrator with textured brushes, using a similar monochromatic palette for both. The older would have more toned down pinks, and the younger would have brighter pinks. The posters would also start with sketches, and both levels would be in black and white so they can be printed at school or at home if the digital kit was purchased. The younger poster is vectorized, while the older poster is done in Procreate to keep more of that hand-drawn feel. I then used elements for each level to build out the tip sheets and the rest of the elements, then prepared everything for print.

The final product is called “The Anti-Bullying Changemaker Kit” which is part of PiQ Potential’s Wellness Project line of products. PiQ also teamed up with Kids Help Phone so there are resources for kids to reach out to included on the products.
