Project:

Illustrate a cover concept pitched by project manager and senior designer. Bring concept to completion with high resolution graphics for a PiQ Potential agenda cover.

Process:

while I worked at PiQ Potential, I illustrated a few covers. One of them was this one, “Take What You Need”, which was a concept brought to me by the project manager. I completed this project under the direction of both the project manager and senior designer, but all the illustration and design work is my own. This was actually a fabric banner concept first before it was adapted to be a cover design instead.

The concept was to have a sign taped or stapled to a door or tree, asking people walking by to take something they needed from the sign, like a rip-off phone number flyer.

I started with rough sketches in Procreate, went through different iterations with different ideas of how the concept could look. The initial sketch was too dark, so we switched to trying it on a door, then went back to the tree idea but put it higher in the sky so the background wasn’t so busy. After the sketch was approved, I put it into Illustrator and traced it out, using textured brushes and overlays to get a hand drawn effect. The banner was then converted to a cover format instead.
